kwippy: A Biased Review.

Hi. This is The Version Of Chasy Who Uses Capital Letters Where She’s Supposed To. You can call me Tvocwuclwsst for short.

I’ve been hating Twitter for a while now. Nevertheless, Ping.fm has allowed me to continue making my little Twittery announcements without actually having to interact with Twitter. For a while, it was working. But one day, I woke up and realized that Twitter got on my nerves so bad, I didn’t even want to be associated with it anymore.* So I logged into to Ping.fm to make some, er…adjustments…to my Twitter registration information. Lo and behold, I see this cute little blue-faced-logo-guy with the word “kwippy” next to it underneath the link for Jaiku. He was so cute, I couldn’t resist clicking. (Not to mention, I’m a compulsive Early Adopter.) But *gasp*, I go to the site and find it’s in BETA and you have to have a SPECIAL INVITE to sign up! I was not terribly happy, as it has been my experience that if you sign up to request an invite (*ahem* Jaiku *ahem*), you never ever see one. Ever. (*ahem* Jaiku *ahem* Btw, thanks to Dan for my Jaiku invite…)

I am happy to say that was not the case with kwippy.com. In fact, I didn’t even get a chance to wonder when I was going to hear from them - THAT’S how fast I heard from them!

I’ve been using kwippy since Sunday and so far, I love it. It has a clean interface, no character limit (which might inspire creativity on Twitter on a GOOD day, but most days, it’s just annoying), and a comment feature. My favorite part is the comment feature. The thing that bugged me about Twitter the most is that @ replies from people were constantly getting lost in my timeline and unless I remembered to click the Replies Tab, I often completely missed out on someone’s reply. Kwippy emails you every time you get a comment so I don’t miss ANYTHING. And it encourages interaction. You know I’m all about interaction.

Kwippy also allows you to favorite kwips (and *gasp*, they TELL you when a kwip has been favorited! Joy!!), as well as permalink for easy reference. They’re still in the early stages but I’m confident that as they develop new features, they’re only going to get better. Much like Plurk, the site owners interact with their users and THAT automatically gets major points in my book. I highly recommend you try kwippy - even if you’re happy with Twitter. (Which, if you are, you’re one of like…5 people.) Did I mention the cute little blue-faced-logo-guy? :]

*I know some of you are going to want to know why so I’ll tell you. 1.) Twitter is for announcements. *I* like interaction. To me, Twitter is like walking down the street and having a whole bunch of people yell random things in your ear but when you try to talk to them, they ignore you. Not everyone I followed on Twitter was like this. But enough were. 2.) Um. Whale. Need I say more? If I do, you’re obviously not a Twitter user. Go Google “Twitter whale”. You’ll find out pretty quick.
