ha. someone might’ve thunk it but it wasn’t me.

i’ve been looking for a new place to blog for a while now. i love livejournal’s features and community but the customization is SO DANG HARD! (it took me two weeks to finish this layout. and if you happen to be looking at this in february ‘09, it ain’t gonna be there cos i’m not renewing my paid subscription.) i like the interface over at wordpress - it’s so clean - but again, customization is a little trickier and they don’t let you play with your html. (to be fair, they have good reasons. but it’s still a bummer for someone who’s a Customization Nut like me.)

meet tumblr. (um. you don’t really need to click that. you’re looking at a tumblr blog right now.)

tumblr has the community and mobile posting that you get at LJ. it also has the sharp, clean interface that you get at WP. the only thing lacking is the ability to password protect posts, but you know what? a blog is to be read. if i’m going to post something i don’t want you to read, i’ll use my LJ*. :]

so how did i find tumblr? well, it’s kind of funny actually. i used to have a tumblr (because i used to have almost anything that could be categorized as a microblogging site - more on that later) but i never used it because, uh, it did all the same things that everything else did. or so i thought. i ended up deleting it because i HATE having things hanging out there that i’m not using. loose ends make me all jittery.

so today, i was browsing my network on kwippy and i came across this kwip:

disqus is great in many ways but you surrender control over comments on your blog to a third party. I blogged about disqus a while back. You can see it in action here: http://www.austincast.com/blog/?p=220

now, unless you followed me over here from LJ, you likely don’t know me very well - when anyone mentions a site or feature that i’ve not heard of, i run over really quick-like and check it out. 7.75 times out of 10, i sign up and check it out. 5.63 times out of 10, i stick with it. so of course i ran over to check out disqus. i’m getting longwinded so i’ll cut to the chase: i like its features but it doesn’t integrate with livejournal. i noticed tumblr sitting there in its cute little logo button. for some reason that i will probably never know, i decided to start another tumblr. so here i am.

gosh, after all my build-up, that was kind of anti-climactic, huh? cutting to the chase isn’t always everything it’s cracked up to be.

the baby has found an outlet that doesn’t have anything plugged into it so i must needs be going. but here’s my new home (i move about once every year or two - we’ll see if tumblr keeps me hooked or if my thirst for New boots me once more in approximately 388 days) and i welcome you. :]

*i just saw the feature under advanced options that allows me to set this post to be seen by just me or everyone. :] now if i can figure out how to do that via email posting…
